Before & After Care
Learn exactly what to do before and after your appointment to have the best results.
XERF
Pre care
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning (including tanning beds and self-tanners) for at least 2–4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily on areas to be treated.
- Discontinue retinoids (Retin-A, tretinoin), glycolic/salicylic acids and other exfoliants at least 5–7 days before treatment.
- Avoid chemical peels, microdermabrasion or waxing in the treatment area for 1–2 weeks before the session.
- Drink plenty of water in the 24–48 hours leading up to your appointment.
- Inform your provider of any metal implants, pacemakers or defibrillators.
- Antiviral medication may be prescribed if you have a history of cold sores.
- Shave hair-bearing areas within the treatment area about 1–2 days prior.
- No makeup, lotions, deodorant or oil on the treatment area on the day of treatment.
Post care
- Mild redness and swelling may appear immediately and can persist for 1–3 days.
- Do not use a cooling or ice pack on the treatment area post treatment.
- Apply a non-occlusive topical product such as a gentle moisturizer to soothe the area. Moisturize daily.
- Increased redness may result from any activity that raises blood flow or body temperature.
- Avoid cosmetics containing alcohol for at least 1 week after treatment.
- To minimize hyperpigmentation, avoid sun exposure and apply SPF 50+ throughout the treatment series.
- Contact your provider with any questions or concerns.
All Laser Services
Pre care
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning (including tanning beds and self-tanners) for at least 4 weeks prior.
- No waxing or tweezing the treatment area 4–6 weeks prior.
- Use a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily on areas to be treated.
- No photosensitive antibiotics or medications 5–7 days prior.
- Area must be clean shaven the night before or morning of your appointment.
- No makeup, lotions, deodorant or oil on the treatment area on the day of treatment.
Post care
- No excessive raise of body temperature for 48 hours — avoid heat, sweating, hot tubs, saunas and exercise.
- No sun exposure or tanning beds for 4 weeks post. Apply SPF 50+ throughout the treatment series.
- Be consistent — treatments need to be scheduled as your technician advises.
- Contact your provider with any questions or concerns.
HydraFacial
Pre care
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning.
- Use a broad-spectrum SPF 40+ daily on areas to be treated.
- Avoid harsh skincare products like exfoliants and retinoids 5–7 days prior.
- No chemical peels, microdermabrasion or laser treatments 2 weeks prior.
- No Botox or fillers 2 weeks prior (best to get a HydraFacial first, then injectables).
- If possible, arrive with no makeup, lotions or oils on the treatment area.
- No active acne on the area to be treated.
Post care
- For longer lasting results, consider take-home products and monthly HydraFacials.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and use a minimum of SPF 40+ sunscreen.
- Avoid aggressive exfoliation and products containing acids in the treatment area for 2 weeks.
- Avoid the use of Retin-A type products post treatment.
Waxing
Pre care
- Cleanse the skin the day of treatment.
- Avoid exfoliants and retinoids 5–7 days prior.
- No active acne in the area to be treated.
Post care
- Avoid heat, sweating, hot tubs, saunas and exercise for 24–48 hours.
- Avoid sun exposure and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
- Exfoliate gently a few days after to help prevent ingrown hairs.
